Tintswalo Atlantic is back, better than ever, and the perfect companion to a Cape Point adventure

In March last year, a series of devastating fires tore through the Mother City. The fires left a path of destruction in their wake, from Muizenburg and Cape Point, right through to Hout Bay. And as the city’s fire fighters and emergency response teams bravely fought the blaze and brought it under control over many long days and nights, news spread that one of the Cape’s most celebrated lodges, Tintswalo Atlantic, had burned to the ground.

The 12 cottages at Tintswalo Atlantic had some of the most sublime ocean views in Cape Town. And the proximity to the cool Atlantic Ocean – which literally lapped at the feet of the cottages – made this one of the most unique and rewarding places to stay while in Cape Town. Its location, at the very start of Chapman’s Peak in Hout Bay, also made Tintswalo Atlantic the perfect resting point for people eager to explore Cape Point and the surrounding peninsula.

But the devastating news didn’t hold the team from Tintswalo Atlantic back. From the first moment that the team was allowed back on the site, they were hard at work evaluating the damage and planning the future. And if you saw the pictures of the lodge following the fire, you will be amazed to hear that this spectacular lodge is now back up and running. In fact, it has been operational since November last year, and guests are already raving about the amazing rebuild.

The suites have all been masterfully reconstructed and reimagined. There are elements that old regulars at Tintswalo will appreciate, such as the luxurious beds and extravagant bathrooms. But the new additions, such as the enveloping deck swings, which add an exciting new vantage point from which to sip a cocktail as the sun slips behind the horizon, are already firm favourites.

This lodge is without doubt a jewel in the crown of the Mother City, and one of the most superb places at which to base yourself if you wish to explore the true beauty of Cape Point. Take a look through the gallery below to find out how special the new Tintswalo Atlantic really is, and be sure to book ahead on the Tintswalo website, as the rooms are already filling up well ahead of time.
