One of the highlights on the Cape Point calendar is our annual Homes for Kids in South Africa (HOKISA) Christmas Party. This year we also celebrated with the wonderful children from Red Hill Preschool in the Masiphumelele and Red Hill informal settlements near Cape Point, and the time spent together was as special and festive as ever.
We started out with the children from HOKISA, and a delicious meal at the Two Oceans Restaurant, where Father Christmas handed out gifts of clothing, soccer balls, toys and sneakers to all the children, generously provided by Pick ‘n Pay. After the meal, everyone headed off for a ride up to the old lighthouse on the Flying Dutchman funicular at Cape Point.
From there, the Cape Point staff continued to Red Hill Preschool, where we presented the children with a variety of presents including clothing, backpacks and a range of toys. The Methodist Church in Simon’s Town and the Simon’s Town Pharmacy provided ice cream, cupcakes and a few other treats to add to the festive spirit.
Both of these organisations are very close to Cape Point’s heart. HOKISA has been doing stellar work for children living with and affected by HIV/Aids since 2001; and Red Hill Preschool is an integral part of the local community, providing children with a valuable education and two meals a day, five days a week.
According to Judiet Barnes, Marketing Manager for Cape Point, ”Giving back to our community is key to the Cape Point Partnership. We have a long standing relationship with Hokisa and this year the Red Hill Preschool was identified as a place in need of our support as both of these fall within our immediate community and hold a special place in each staff member’s heart”.
Special thanks go out to SANParks, Two Oceans restaurant, Pick ‘n Pay, Tiger’s Eye, and HGTS who provided the transport.
