What to Pack: Stay Warm & Stylish
The winters at Cape Point may be cold, windy, and often rainy, but that doesn’t mean you have to sacrifice comfort or style.
Don’t worry if you forget your jacket; the Curio Shop at Cape Point offers a selection of cosy hoodies that are perfect for layering. These hoodies are the perfect everyday souvenir, inspired by the Cape’s wildlife and natural beauty. Wear closed, comfy shoes if you intend to go up to the old lighthouse or go on a lovely stroll along the coast.
It’s advisable to bring a raincoat or a windbreaker because the weather might change suddenly. Even in the winter, UV rays may be severe, so use sunscreen and lip balm. Protect your skin and lips from harsh weather.
Cosy Stops to Warm Up
Cape Point may get quite chilly throughout the winter, but we have some warm, delicious treats waiting for you. After your adventures, think about enjoying a hot chocolate from our Food Shop or your choice of one of our fruity and herbal teas on offer. Weather & Wildlife
Expect temperatures between 10°C and 18°C, with cooler temps and warmer moments. The clear mornings and mild afternoons are great for hiking and taking pictures.
Wildlife Encounters: On the coast, southern right whales are most visible in the winter. Ostriches, baboons, and other seabirds may also be spotted roaming the area.
Moody skies and misty views: Cape Point has an almost ethereal feel to it since the lighthouse and nearby rocks frequently vanish behind the mist. Photographers would love it!

The Flying Dutchman Funicular: If little legs are too tired to hike, hop on this scenic ride to the top and enjoy the 360 ° views.
